Hello, my friends! I hope you are enjoying this lovely Saturday. I’m so excited to introduce you to the main character of my WIP, These Dreams I Hold. I’ve been outlining for the last several months and have really gotten to know London and her likes, dislikes, and personality. Writing this interview was a blast and I learned a lot about London through her answers.
Hi, London! So glad you could join us today. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m London. I’m thirteen, I live in Colorado, and I have a dog named Latte. I’m not used to talking about myself, so I guess we’ll see how this goes.
I love that your dog’s name is Latte! I’m sure you’ll do great at this. Do you have any siblings? What do you like to do with your family?
I have one older sister named Harper. She just graduated high school and is going to college in the fall. When she’s at home, we like to listen to music and practice hand lettering together. Harper is really good at lettering and is teaching me how to do it. My parents are often working; my dad is in the Army and my mom is a management consultant. There aren’t many days when we’re all home together, but when we are, we often read aloud together or watch a movie. Sometimes my dad takes us on a hike, but I don’t like that as much. I’d rather do something inside.
I love that you and your sister listen to music together! And that your family does read-aloud time. What grade are you in at school? Are you homeschooled or public schooled?
I’m in seventh grade. I went to public school all the way through elementary school, but when I got to junior high, my parents started homeschooling me. My mom is able to do most of her job in her home office, so she’s able to help me with assignments. I do school at home, but almost all of my subjects are through the online academy run by the local school.
Aww, I love that! Homeschooling for the win! What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about school?
I love English and reading. Anything to do with words or books, actually. One of my English assignments this year was to write a short story, and that was my favorite assignment ever. I do not like math or science. I had to take geometry this year, and that was the worst. Some people thought shapes were easier, but I don’t agree. Science is okay, but the curriculum the school uses is so boring that everybody dreads the class. I think we’re getting a new science teacher next year, so maybe that will be better.
I always liked English too, especially writing stories. Geometry was hard, that’s for sure. Can you tell us a few of your favorite things?
My favorite color is blue, I like instrumental music the best, my favorite book is Little Women, and my most favorite thing to do is sit outside on the porch swing and imagine things. Oh, and my favorite vacation was when we went on a cruise to Hawaii. On one of the days, we got to swim with dolphins.
Whoa, swimming with dolphins? What a great memory! What does a day in your life look like?
My days are kind of all over right now, but one of my goals for this summer is to create a daily routine. I was just writing it out in my journal the other day, so I guess I’ll put it here, too.
✨ get up at 7:00
✨ do my hair and skincare
✨ eat breakfast (Mom often makes oatmeal or smoothies for us.)
✨ feed Latte and do my chores (I have three chores every day.)
✨ go outside for a while
✨ spend time with Harper
That’s what I’d like my mornings to look like. In the afternoons we often go to town, meet friends, or do stuff around the house.
That’s great that you’re creating a morning routine! It’s well worth it to put in the work to make your day more streamlined. Are you introverted or extroverted, organized or messy?
I’m an introverted organization expert, as my mom says.
I’m the same. Everything needs to have its place, right? If you could have one wish granted, what would it be? Why?
I’d like to live on a farm with Harper and my parents. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do and dreamed about. I think it would be cool to have lots of cows and some horses. I’d want to be responsible for feeding the calves.
Aww, that’s a great wish! I grew up on a farm and loved it. This question is kind of similar to the last one, but what is something you really want to do someday?
I want to graduate from college and then travel for a bit. Europe sounds like a place I would like to visit.
Europe would be a great place to travel! What would you like to go to college for?
I’d like to be a librarian or maybe a journalist.
And finally, what are your plans for this summer?
Well, my dad is going to take some time off and we’re going to go visit my grandparents in Texas. I’ve never been there before, and I’m looking forward to it. Dad says that they have horses, and I’m going to ask my grandfather to teach me how to ride. Mom and Harper are going to go shopping for Harper’s dorm room and get some new clothes. She’s going to school in Texas, so she needs different stuff than she wears in Colorado. Mom said I could go shopping with them, but I’d rather stay home and read a book. I have a whole list of books to borrow from the library to take along.
That sounds like a wonderful vacation! I’m glad that you’ll get to learn to ride. I love the idea of lots of books to read, too. Thanks so much for being here today, London. I’m excited to hear more about your summer some other time (:
