Hey, my lovely friends! With summer just around the corner, that means it’s time for summer runs, picnics and cookouts, swim parties, and more. At the end of a long day with friends or family, I love being able to come home to a clean, peaceful room to relax and get ready for the next day. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite ways to make sure your room is always tidy and inviting for when you want to just chill.
pick up/put away every night
Putting things away in their proper places does wonders for keeping your room tidy! I like to spend 5 to 10 minutes every night picking up random things and putting them where they belong. Not only is it nice to go to sleep in a clean room, it’s also great to wake up and not feel stressed out about things lying around everywhere.
get organizing bins
For a while, I had things like hair ties/bobby pins, perfumes, and other things just sitting on my dresser and in my closet. Everything was accessible, but it didn’t add to the “tidy and organized” feel. So I got these containers and a few more to keep those small but essential items in. I would recommend wire baskets, woven/braided bins, or wicker baskets. You can get a variety of sizes for wherever you need a little extra organization!

put away extra decor
How many of your sports awards, academic trophies, and random knick knacks actually need to be out? Yes, it’s great to be able to see them all, but all those little things can add to the “cluttered” feel of your room. Every once in a while, (I like to do it every month), go through your room and see what can be put away or go somewhere else.
bring in a few plants
I’m not really a plant girl, but having something green on the bookshelf or my desk really makes my room feel special! Ideally, look for something that requires indirect sunlight and minimal watering. There are lots of cute hangers/planters to pick from too.

“if you don’t wear it, toss it”
If you’re like me, you might find it hard to get rid of clothes you don’t wear anymore, especially if it used to be a favorite. But here’s the thing: those clothes take up valuable space in your closet! A general rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in six months, you can get rid of it. When I was getting all the photos for this post, I used that time to sort, organize, and declutter, including getting rid of several things I don’t wear anymore. If it sounds too overwhelming, try eliminating one piece of clothing at a time, rather than going through your entire closet at once.
make your room somewhere you want to be
There was a time when I didn’t spend any time in my room other than when I was sleeping. It’s not that I didn’t like to be there, it just didn’t feel like me. Over the past year or so, though, I’ve really worked at making my room into a place I enjoy spending time in.

have a cleaning schedule
It can be a bit overwhelming trying to do all the cleaning and organizing on the same day. I like to break it up and schedule different things for different days. For example, I might vacuum/dust on Monday, change and wash sheets on Tuesday, and vacuum again on Friday. It all depends on your personal preferences and schedule. However, make sure you’re getting those “boring” cleaning chores done, because a clean room is an inviting room!
let’s chat!
are you a plant girl? what’s your favorite low-maintenance plant? how do you stay on top of cleaning/organizing?
