hello, 2025: how to make a vision board

Dec. 29, 2024 / All Things Life

hello, my lovely friends! can you believe that 2025 is just around the corner? 2024 flew right by. I’m a little sad it’s over already, but I’m excited for what’s ahead.

One of my favorite things to do in the last week or so of December is to think through my goals and plans for the coming year. It’s fun to make lists and vision boards and checklists of everything I want to do. Making a vision board is a ton of fun, and that’s what today’s post is all about! I’ll guide you through the process, with tips and ideas along the way, and at the end I’ll show you my 2025 vision board.

step one: choose photos/vibe/aesthetic

The first thing that you want to do is think through your goals and dreams for the year. What are the main things you want to accomplish? Having an idea of these two things are very helpful in picking out different pictures to feature. For example, two big goals I have for 2025 are to work on at least one piece of art every week and go to college. So, I found a few pictures of art and college-related things.

What color scheme/aesthetic are you going for? Are you a minimalist, neutrals kind of girl? Or a the-more-color-the-better girl? You can choose photos that go with a certain aesthetic or just pick ones that represent your goals and ideas. A little tip: I found it much easier to just pick photos that I liked, rather than try to make them all match. If you really wanted to and have the time, you can always edit them for a more cohesive feel.

step two: design the board

Once you’ve chosen your design, it’s time to start putting in all the pictures you chose for your board. This is where you can get creative with the arrangement of colors, ideas, etc., or you can just put pictures wherever they fit for an organized chaos feel. (That’s my favorite way to do it XD) Regardless of your strategy, remember that this is YOUR board. There are no rules except for the one that says have fun with this!

step three: pick quotes, words, scripture

The final step is to pick a few words, quotes, and/or bible verses that represent your hopes for the upcoming year. For my main word, I chose “grow.” That word is my focus for a few different reasons, which you can read about in next week’s post! I also picked “relationships” and “balance”. Proverbs 3:5-6 is my verse for the year, and quotes from Anne Shirley and C.S. Lewis are little reminders to myself.

You could pick several different words, just one main word, or none at all. I do recommend picking a bible verse or two to be your motto for the year, so to speak. If there are any quotes that are special to you, maybe from a book or podcast, why not include those?

step four: work on those goals

I said that step three was the last step, but technically there is a step four. Your vision board is complete, so now it’s time to get working on the goals you made! Hopefully the board showcases your personality as well as your 2025 goals. You can either print it out and put it somewhere you’ll see it often or make it the new wallpaper on your phone or computer.

making realistic goals

you don’t have to make goals for the new year, but it is lots of fun to make a few and work on making them habits. here are a few tips for making realistic goals that feel manageable:

  • make clear goals: if you’re going to make goals, at least set yourself up for success. vague goals like “work out more” or “do well in school” aren’t the best. what does working out more look like? how do you want to do better in school? try making SMART goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
  • don’t make too many goals: let’s be honest, we’ve all done this. you’re excited about the new year, you have lots of things you want to do better at, and so you make goals. a lot of them. but how long does it take before you’re only working on two or three of the original eight? start with two or three goals that you know you can maintain. you can always add more later on!
  • build on what you’ve got: something I’ve learned over the past year is that it’s much easier to be consistent with a new goal or habit if it builds on something I’m already doing. if you can, make a goal that does build on an existing habit.
