Live by Sadie Robertson Huff || A Book Review

Jun. 22, 2024 / All Things Books

Hey, my lovely friends! I’m thrilled to have another book review today. I’ve read several of Sadie Robertson Huff’s books, and each time I come away with something new to think about. Live is one of several books about life that Sadie’s written, and I recommend all of them!

Synopsis

There’s a big difference between being alive and knowing how to truly live. To be alive is something that happens to you. But to truly live is something you get to choose each day. As Robertson says, “When you truly learn to live the life God offers, your whole existence becomes a verb.”

In Live, Sadie Robertson inspires teens and young adults to:

  • Thrive in the life God gave us by making choices that will lead us into the fullness He has for us, not into the emptiness the world offers
  • Find confidence, deal with haters, live in the moment, discover the power of words, and identify the difference between what leads to life and what leads to death
  • Wholeheartedly embrace God’s ways and God’s truth, so young people can make the best choices

My Thoughts

There are so many amazing quotes and takeaways from this book! When I knew that this was the book I wanted to do a review about, I started writing down the things that stuck out to me. After a while though, I had to stop because every other paragraph had something thought-provoking or profound. Sadie has a way with words that is relatable, but also grounded in truth and honesty.

My favorite quote is from chapter six where she writes,

Be bold enough to turn up the contrast.

Sadie Robertson Huff

The chapter is about how there needs to be a noticeable difference between our Christian lives and the lives of those who are not believers. It made me stop and think about whether or not I’m living my life in a way that people can see that I am different from those around me. During the teenage years, that can be especially difficult because we want to fit in with our friend group, to be accepted and loved. However, I think that Sadie says it best:

. . . In Christianity, the focus isn’t on you. It’s about who God is in you.

Sadie Robertson Huff

Live your life in a way that makes others stop and say, “What is it that makes her different? I want to know.”

Another thing I love about Live is the emphasis on the importance of life. Aside from the title, Sadie writes a lot about how important life is, reminding the reader that God created her for a purpose; He gave her life! In one chapter, Sadie tells the story of a scientist who basically figured out the probability of any one of us being alive. I don’t remember the exact number, but it’s huge! Yet we are here, living on this earth with a God-designed life, purpose, and direction. The big number shows that it’s not just coincidence. And I think that’s pretty amazing.

Throughout the book, there are beautiful photos of Sadie and her friends laughing, having fun, and occasionally being crazy. Photos add such a special element to a book, and these ones are no exception. I love all the outfits, especially the rompers and overalls! You can definitely get some outfit inspo.

In conclusion, Live is a book that I believe every teen girl should read. Sadie covers topics like comparison, waiting, comfort zones, and friendships in a big sister way. She shares advice and encouragement and ends the book with some takeaway verses to remember.
