Hey, my lovely friends! With summer just around the corner, I’m already thinking ahead to my plans and goals for the next several months. It can be hard to keep up with a routine when you don’t have school, so here are my top 10 tips for having a summer that is both fun and productive.
get up at a certain time
I know that in the summer, I get in the habit of sleeping in a lot later than I do during the school year. While this is great, it can make it difficult to get back to your usual routine once school starts again. Challenge yourself to continue getting up at an earlier time, say 7:30 or 8:00. Be consistent and get up at that same time every day. I’ve learned that doing so makes it so much easier to get started with the day and get everything done that I need/want to.
plan out your day
One of my favorite things to do in the morning is to write out my to do list for the day. In the summer, I think having an idea of what you want your day to look like is great. It can help you stay on track and keep things from being forgotten.
do something with a friend
Summer is such a fun time for doing things with friends. Whether it’s a pool party with your friend group or coffee and a walk with your bestie, those are
make time for working out
Summer is my favorite season for many reasons, but a big reason is because I can run/workout outside in the sunshine! I would recommend doing your workout in the morning. There’s something so fulfilling about finishing a workout before everyone else is up, and it’s just you, the sunrise, and maybe some music. My favorite workouts are running, weightlifting at the gym, and swimming. Pilates and yoga are also fun to do! But whatever you do, don’t forget rest days ๐
make a list of books you want to read
One of my favorite things about summer is being able to sit outside in the yard or on the front porch and reading for an afternoon. I tend to read the same books over and over though, so this year I made a list of all the books I want to finish in the next few months. It doesn’t have to be a long list; choose five or six of from your TBR and make it a goal to read at least a few pages every day. Bonus points if some of those books are nonfiction!
make a bucket list/set goals
For the past several years, my mom, sister and I have made a summer bucket list at the end of the school year. We include things that need to happen, things we want to do, and a few things that probably won’t get checked off but we put them on anyway XD it’s a fun motivator to have that list somewhere that you’ll see it often and remember your summer goals. In addition to the family list, I like having my own personal list of goals for the summer. This year, my goals include:
- train for/run a 5K again
- travel to Australia
- get better at my latte art
- write a short story for fun
- get everything together for college
prioritize getting enough sleep
This might not be an issue for some of you, but I know that I personally tend to stay up a lot later in the summer because it’s still light out, and then I get up early to do things. I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night so that I’m not falling asleep halfway through the day XD
do something fun every day
This is kind of similar to spending time on your hobbies every day, but not quite. When I say something fun, I’m thinking of doing your nails, trying a new hairstyle, getting coffee on your way home from the gym, etc. Something small that makes you smile. It doesn’t have to be huge, but sometimes those little things are the highlight of the day.
try a new hobby
There’s no school filling up your time in the summer, so why not use some of that spare time to try something new? Last year I started knitting again and tried bullet journaling.
- knitting/crocheting
- bullet journaling
- painting
- scrapbooking
- photography
- music
- learn a new language
- letter writing/mail art
